Students will:
Language
We are currently working on procedural writing and then we will be moving on to persuasive writing (advertisement).
**Please continue to have your child read aloud to you.
February 2020
Math
We have completed our Data Management unit and we are moving onto Measurement.
Measurement
Students will:

Language
We will be working on procedural writing and writing instructions how to do something.
January 2020
Math
We are working on our unit Data Management. Students are encouraged to practice multiplication facts
Data Management
Students will:
Language
We have been doing some creative writing about our Christmas holidays and New Year Resolutions. We will be moving onto Media Studies - specifically looking at applied and overt messages. We will also be working on procedural writing (how to do something).
**Please continue to have your child practice reading aloud to you.
December 2019
Math
We have just finished off a longer unit in Number Sense and Numeration. We are moving onto Geometry.
Geometry:
Students will be:
Key Words in Math: congruent figures, protractor, degree, quadrilateral, diagonal, adjacent figures, parallel lines, similar figures, vertex, vertices, skeleton, volume
We are working on number talks, and collaborative group work to develop an understanding of how to solve problems.
Language
In Language we are finishing up descriptive writing and will be moving onto procedural writing (instructions - how to do something).
Synthesizing - combining new ideas with what I already know to get something new and different from the text.

Students will be:
LANGUAGE:
In Language we be continuing to work on factual recounts in writing and will be starting descriptive writing.
September 2019
Math - Grade 4
Patterning
Students will be:
Key Words in Math: Pattern rule, repeating pattern, term, core, growing pattern, shrinking pattern,
equation.
LANGUAGE:
In Language we will be working on Fix-Up Strategies in reading and a factual recount (interview) in writing.
Fix-Up Strategies:
Fix-up Strategies assist students to understand when reading.
Strategies to use:
1. Skip It - Back Track
2. Sound it out
3. Picture clues
4. Chunk it
5. Look for patterns
6. Hidden words
We will be working on multiplication and division and then moving on to fractions and decimals.
Multiplication and Division
Students will:
- multiply to 9x9 and divide to 81 using a variety of mental strategies
- multiply two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers
- divide two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers
Fractions and Decimals
Students will: - compare, and order fractions;
- demonstrate and explain the relationship between equivalent fractions;
- demonstrate an understanding of decimal numbers to tenths.

Math
We have just finished off a longer unit in Number Sense and Numeration. We are moving onto Geometry.
Geometry:
Students will be:
- Identifying quadrilaterals and three-dimensional figures;
- exploring benchmark angles (i.e., straight angle, right angle, half a right angle);
- construct skeletons of three- dimensional figures.
Key Words in Math: congruent figures, protractor, degree, quadrilateral, diagonal, adjacent figures, parallel lines, similar figures, vertex, vertices, skeleton, volume
We are working on number talks, and collaborative group work to develop an understanding of how to solve problems.
